As the largest open water swimming competition in the country, the event brought together swimmers of all ages and skill levels to celebrate athleticism and endurance. This includes swimmers ranging from 5 years old to 65 years of age. 13 swimmers from the National Special Olympic Swimming Squad and a swimmer from Paralympic Swimming team also competed at the event.
Organized by Swim Maldives, the competition welcomed 350 swimmers from across the country, with over 340 swimmers completing the swim. Held on Saturday, 24 May 2025, the event aimed to promote open water swimming, ignite greater interest in the sport, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our beautiful Maldivian seas.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from swimmers aged 5 to 65, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the event. Notably, 13 swimmers from the Special Olympics Swimming Squad and one swimmer from the Paralympic Swimming Team also took part, showcasing remarkable determination and sporting spirit.
A standout moment of the tournament was the special appearance by world-renowned swimmer Adam Walker. He engaged with local swimmers, shared valuable insights from his remarkable journey, and offered words of encouragement. His presence brought added inspiration to the event, especially for young athletes aspiring to follow their passion in competitive swimming.
This year’s competition featured two distinct categories tailored to different age groups and skill levels. The competitive 1 KM swim followed a straightforward 500M out-and-back route along the Malé seawall, while the non-competitive 250M swim was specially designed for children under 10 and swimmers who had recently developed their open water skills.
