Long distance swim marathon to help promote tourism in the Maldives

The swim marathon held by the Ministry of Tourism going by the name, "Swim Maldives Baa BR Crawl 2019" was launched.


The initiative was taken by Swim Maldives, and Hussain Shameem spoke on their behalf, regarding the event. He noted that the event is a long distance swim and that it will be conducted as a tour of Baa Atoll.


Hussain Shameem said that the swim will begin at B.Eydhafushi and end at B.Kendhoo, with breaks in between every five kilometers. He mentioned again that the swim will start at B.Eydhafushi to Soneva Fushi, and then to Nelivaru Finolhu and Maalhos. There is said to be a total of 23 islands to be breaks during the event.


The man has also said that it will take place every morning from 8:30am till 12:00 noon. Eight swimmers will participate in the event, and one of them is a national level swimmer. As for safety, four canoes, a dinghy and MNDF support will be in place during the span of the event.


Hussain said that the aim of this event is to promote the natural beauty of the Maldives, and advertise it as a swimming destination. He also noted that one of the aims of the events is also to promote water sports and water related activities amongst the locals.


With a heavy heart, he also noted that it is to shed some light on the few drowning incidents among children. He said the event will help to create awareness on the issue and promote prevention measures for such incidents.
