Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed has stated for the record that,
within the next years, Hanimaadhoo Airport will be prepared to host international
flights. He mentioned this in the press conference which was held to release
the tourism related statistics for the month of March, 2019.
Speaking at the press conference, Minister explained that
the aim of the current government was to introduce tourism to all parts of the
country, Furthermore, he said that it was of high urgency of the government to
further develop the northern part pf the country. Henceforth, arrangements will
be made for international flights from various different foreign destinations
to land in Hanimaadhoo Airport.
In order for an increase in the number of flights from international
airline to the Maldives, the minister mentioned that they had recently had a
discussion with Singapore Airlines. In addition to that, he mentioned that the size
of Velena Airport and its tendency to be crowded a majority of the time, posed
a huge challenge, and therefore, the opening of the new upcoming runway and
terminal will bring about multiple solutions for existing problems.
