The Maldives is enjoying a significant resurgence in tourism, with the Ministry of Tourism reporting an average of over 7,000 tourists visiting the island nation each day. So far this year, over 326,424 tourists have arrived, representing a 16.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

China remains the dominant source of tourists, followed by Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, and India. The positive trend in arrivals is reflected in the average length of stay, with tourists now spending an average of 7 days in the Maldives.

The government is encouraged by these figures and has expressed optimism about reaching its goal of attracting 2 million tourists this year. The Ministry of Tourism believes there’s even potential for the total number of arrivals to reach 2.3 million by the end of 2024.

The steady influx of visitors is providing a much-needed boost to the Maldives’ tourism-dependent economy and signals a strong recovery from the challenges faced in recent years.
