Maldives Association of Tourism Professionals (ATP) has recently called upon the Ministry of Education to bring amendments to the period offered as school holidays to coincide with the off-season period (June to August).

Numerous companies, especially in the tourism sector, find it inconvenient to manage employee leaves as the school holidays normally fall into November to December which marks the span of high-season for the Tourism and Travel Industry in the Maldives.

Maldivian workers who spend most of the time away from their families take vacations during the high season for family vacations. Many families look out for the holiday to spend time together for leisure, medical treatment, circumcision and family among other long-awaited necessities.

Such a change would give parents who work in the hospitality industry to attend to various functions at schools without struggling and competing for leaves among peers. Families living in Male can visit families and relatives in their islands while the flight and travel are also more affordable.

Flight and travel become affordable and accessible due to the low-demand for international travel, sea-plane and other forms of domestic travel in the tourism industry.

ATP believes that it will be highly beneficial for the businesses in the Tourism and Travel industry enabling them to manage staff leaves more effectively giving employees the chance to better utilise their vacation period.
