The worlds largest eco-friendly underwater theme park coming up within the kingdoms master-planned island city, Diyar Al Muharraq, is scheduled for opening in August.

The Bahrain Underwater Themepark will include several unique dive spots in addition to artificial coral reefs that will be submerged in the later stages of the project in order to form a safe haven for the kingdoms marine ecosystem, said the officials of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA).

On opening, it is set to become the largest diving park in the world covering an area of over 100,000 sqm, they stated.

The park will boast exceptional dive experiences including several structures such as a submerged 70-m Boeing 747 as a centrepiece, as well as a replica of a traditional Bahraini pearl merchants house and artificial coral reefs.

Sculptures will be fabricated from eco-friendly materials and submerged to provide a safe haven for coral reef growth and habitat for marine life, said the officials.

The dive site will also provide researchers with rich information and data on marine ecology and biology and will be a major boost to the kingdoms ecotourism sector.

The project will help boost coral growth and the development of a sustainable habitat for marine-life to thrive, they added.
