First paramotor expedition in Maldives commenced on March 2nd

The first ever paramotor expedition across the beautiful island nation, Maldives, began on the 2nd of March 2019, with a team of 10 foreign pilots travelling fom the northernmost island of Thuraakunu in Haa Alifu Atoll, to the southernmost atoll of Addu.

Local firm, Sky Guys Pvt Ltd, organized the event Maldives Paramotors 2019, with local telecom giant,Dhiraagu as official sponsor.

The aircrew also includes gold medallists in international competitions from Britain, Oman and South Africa. One Maldivian pilot is expected to join the crew along their journey as well.

The pilots landed in Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll and Hondaafushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. and spent the night at Kulhudhufushi in Haa Dhaalu on Saturday.

The pilots will be covering a total distance of 40-60km a day, flying 500-1000 ft high depending on air flow conditions.

The team will be stopping at 24 islands before the Paramotor event concludes on March 14.

Javid Hussain, the Managing Director of Sky Guys, stated that their main aim is to raise awareness about the dangers of single-use plastic across the Maldives. Hence, they will conduct programmes to raise awareness of plastic pollution among the schools and communities of the selected islands.

Furthermore, Javid revealed that promoting Sports and Adventure Tourism in the Maldives is also one of their main objectives. Pilots will be accommodated in guesthouses as a part of promoting local island tourism.

Paramotoring is a form of aviation where pilots wear motors on their backs, which provide enough thrust to take off using a paraglider.
