Dhiraagu has partnered with the Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM) to raise awareness about childhood cancer.
As part of this partnership, Dhiraagu is supporting Cancer Society of Maldives in launching a series of educational resources, including a video series with an animated song on the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, a survivor's story, a doctor-led video focusing on early detection, and a dedicated toolkit for educators and caregivers. The comprehensive toolkit aims to raise awareness about the post-treatment challenges faced by children with cancer. This toolkit was officially launched at a special event by Cancer Society of Maldives, in partnership with Dhiraagu, UNICEF Maldives, and the Ministry of Education.
The event was attended by key partner figures, including the Chairperson of the Cancer Society of Maldives, Ms. Juwairiya Saeed, Dhiraagu CEO & MD, Mr. Ismail Rasheed, UNICEF’s Deputy Representative to the Maldives, Mr. Isy Faingold and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Hussain Saeed Mohamed, along with senior officials, parents, caregivers and educators.
During the event, the importance of the toolkit for educators and caregivers was emphasised, highlighting that while increased awareness and early detection are critical in the fight against childhood cancer, the support provided after diagnosis is equally vital. The support systems created by educators and caregivers offer children the strength, confidence, and resilience to continue living their childhood despite the challenges posed by cancer.
Dhiraagu, alongside UNICEF Maldives, expressed deep appreciation to the Cancer Society of Maldives for their unwavering dedication to advocating for children affected by cancer and for making a profound difference in the lives of countless families. Dhiraagu’s commitment to this cause aligns with the company’s CSR programme, where inclusion and care of children are key pillars. By prioritising these important issues, Dhiraagu hopes to foster a supportive environment that not only raises awareness but also contributes to the overall well-being and development of children in the community.
September is recognised globally as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. According to the Cancer Society of Maldives, childhood cancer cases are among the highest in Asia, with an estimated 4-5% of cancer patients in the Maldives being children under the age of 18. Early detection and increased awareness are essential to improving outcomes, as educating parents, caregivers, and educators about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer can lead to timely interventions, significantly improving treatment success and recovery.
As part of its ongoing CSR efforts, Dhiraagu remains committed to supporting the inclusion, protection, and development of children in the community, through supporting programmes and initiatives that foster their well-being.
