The number of total tourists recorded to have visited the Maldives till the end of May 2018 increased by 10 per cent compared to previous year.

The information and data were compiled by the tourism ministry from data received and recorded by the immigration offices and various tourist facilities across the Maldives. Compared to 572ØŒ318 tourists that visited the Maldives by the end of May 2017, a total of 632ØŒ729 tourists attended the country by the end of May 2018. 

The highest number of visitors were from the China market with 16,927 tourists arrivals followed by 10,668, arrivals from Germany. 8,711 tourist arrivals were recorded from India, 7,577 tourists arrivals from the UK and 3,903 tourist arrivals from Russia

The total number of tourist arrivals for May was filed to be 92,913 which is a 0.6% increase in visitors compared to May last year.

Statistics show that businesses operating in the tourism and hospitals industry have catered 41,152 beds to guests and a 13.7% increase in the duration of stays by tourists have been recorded.
