In conjunction with Plastic free month Hotel Jen Male Maldives organized an awareness session in collaboration with Parley Maldives under the theme, #BeatPlasticPollution. More than 60 staffs participated in this eye-opening awareness session which took them through various videos and valuable information on ocean pollution thats happening around the world and in Maldives.

Parley for the Oceans, is a US based organization, working with the resorts, hotels, schools, local islands and fishing vessels to intercept plastic, which is then shipped abroad for recycling. It is making design-wear from plastic waste.

The Maldives appears to be an idyllic paradise, but it has not escaped the impact of the thousands of tons of plastic waste that ends up in the worlds oceans. Endless bits of plastic washed up on the pristine sands, just meters away from an abundant sea life, that includes turtles, dolphins, sting rays and hundreds of fish species. The figures are alarming every year 13 million tons of plastic are dumped in our oceans, where they destroy coral reefs and threaten marine fauna.

Hotel Jen has been one of the collaborative partners for Parley Maldives from 2017 and has been segregating the plastic wastes of hotel and its staffs support this cause by bringing weekly plastic collected at home which then is collected from Parley weekly basis.Up to date we have contributed 1842.50 kg of plastic to Parley. As its all our responsibility to ensure we eradicate this problem and show the support for #BeatPlasticPollution.

Today many local NGOs, businesses, school and some government bodies have taken up the cause with promising initiative as such the Hotel Jen Male Maldives has banned single use plastic straws, takeaway cups and food containers effective January 2019.
