'Run for Maldives 2020' - The Biggest Virtual Running Event to be Held in the Maldives

Sporting events company, Unix Sporting is set to host the biggest virtual international running event in the country, ‘Run for Maldives’, during this September 2020. 

Kickstarting on September 27, the virtual event aligns with World Tourism Day and will be marked as part of World Tourism Day celebratory activities. Interested individuals; local and international, have been invited to register for the event, with the deadline for Maldivians set on September 20 and international guests on October 15. 

Speaking to local media, Managing Director of Unix Sporting, Reshan Shareef informed that participants who complete their selected distanced run will be awarded a medal of participation in addition to a ‘record break’ medal. 

According to Unix Sporting, the main goal for this special event is to break the current world record for the 5K virtual run with the greatest number of participants.  

Separated into four main categories; 5.5 kilometers, 15 kilometers, 21 kilometers and 870 kilometers, the run’s participants can complete the entered distance at any location, at any pace, indoors on a treadmill or outdoors or in any country during the allocated time period.  

After the event, participants can upload screenshot as proof for the completion of the marathon using any app or system preferred, such as Nike Run Club, Garmin, Strava etc. 

Anyone aged five and above can register for all categories. For the 870K category, only teams of five are applicable for the run. 

In a lucky draw, 10 participants will be picked for a free holiday in the Maldivesat Unix Sporting's partner resorts and hotels.
