Parliament to start discussion on bill, charging 60$ on business class and 90$ on first class

Parliament will be starting discussion on new bill, charging USD 60 on business class and USD 90 on first class as airport tax for passengers departing from the Maldives via Velana International Airport (VIA).

The bill was proposed under the law of Airport Taxes and Fees Act which is levied on passengers departing from Velana International Airport. The discussion will be taking place today, 17th February 2020 at the People's Majlis.

Currently, airport tax and fee is levied on passengers departing from the Maldives, at a rate of USD 25 per foreign passenger and USD 12 per Maldivian passenger. Those with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers and children under the age of 2 are exempt from ASC.

Additionally, passengers travelling via private jet will have to pay a fee of USD 120 upon departure.
