MATI and Gadheemee Collection to host Traditional Stone-carving course

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) in association with Gadheemee Collection is scheduled to conduct a traditional stone-carving course that will span two months from June 10th to August 8th. 


Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization formed in 1982, for the purpose of promoting tourism in the Maldives. Its membership comprises of Maldives companies and individuals engaged in travel and tourism related activities; local and foreign travel agents; tour operators, dive bases, suppliers, airlines, banks and financial institution.The central role of the NGO MATI is to assist its members in addressing the problems and issues as may arise in the tourism industry of the Maldives. It co-ordinates its activities in line with Maldivian government policies, and collaborates with other organizations, nationally and internationally, to render its members the necessary services.


Gadheemee Collection is a company specialized in replicating ancient and historical artifacts and designs created by local historians using hand techniques and tools.

Mohamed Imran of Gadheemee Collection mentioned on his LinkedIn profile that "Our environment obligation demands that we use an alternative material to Coral limestone, a modern stone having a similar look but artificial (Ceilicone building blocks). We also collect and reuse authentic Maldivian timber such as coconut and such, infuse with brass workings for that extra touch of ancient cultural flair."

The two month course will be free of charge for enthusiastic applicants and will run three sessions a week, each session with a two-and-a-half hour duration. 

The course details were promoted on MATI and Gadheemee Collections social media channels and the application deadline closed on 15th May 2019.
