Japan Airlines to give away 50,000 free plane tickets during Summer and Tokyo Olympics

Japan Airlines will be giving away 50,000 free domestic tickets to international travelers during summer 2020.The giveaway is part of the Japan National Tourism Organization's (JNTO) Your Japan 2020 campaign which aims to draw tourists into less visited parts of the country beyond the Olympic city.

The flights will depart from Tokyo and Osaka between July and September 2020, which includes the Tokyo Olympics dates from July 24 to August 9. The full details of JAL's promotion will be released early January. 

To receive free tickets, tourists must be registered to Japan Airlines' frequent flyer scheme, JAL Mileage Bank. Four local destinations will be recommended to choose from and your destination will only be known after few days from applying.

Japan's government expects approximately an extra 10 million visitors to the country in 2020 with the Olympic games hype.

Final preparations are underway for the Olympics, with the new National Stadium in Tokyo -- the main venue for the Games -- officially inaugurated on December 21 in a star-studded ceremony including Jamaican sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.

Foreign visitors to Japan reached more than 31 million ranging through the years 2013 to 2018 with 10 million of these travelers stopping in Tokyo.
