British Airways, the flag carrier of the UK, has announced to commence regularly scheduled flights to the Maldives for the first time next year.

According to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), these flights will be a departure from the current arrangement of only offering seasonal flights to the Maldives during the winter. The airline will operate flights to the Maldives throughout the entire year in 2023.

The UK has long been a significant market for the Maldives, with a history of strong tourism in the country. This year, the UK ranked third in terms of market share, with 10.8% of total arrivals coming from the UK.

The resumption of direct flights from British Airways has contributed to an improvement in the number of tourists arriving from the UK, with over 170,000 arriving in the Maldives so far this year.
