On Saturday,
21st September 2019, the team and guests at Hurawalhi Maldives joined millions
of others across the globe for the annual Clean Up the World event. Care for
the environment lies at the heart of Hurawalhi , so it
was only fitting for Hurawalhih to get involved again this year.
Hurawalhi Prodivers along with 10 guests went on a house reef snorkel while the diving instructor team went down below them to do a clean-up dive along with members from Marine Centre. Fortunately, Hurawalhi did not find much garbage along the reef but did find a few gloves, T-shirts, a toothbrush and some box packaging.
Hurawalhi's Resident Marine Biologist Lynn Kessler joined the Baa Atoll
Manta festival for local community outreach and networking opportunity with
organizations like Parley for the Oceans, Olive Ridley Project, and Zero Waste
Maldives.
Once again a big
thank you to everyone who contributed their part to making Hurawalhi and its
surroundings even more spotless!
While it was a
big event, a part of a global campaign, Hurawalhi put a lot of emphasis on the
environment in day-to-day operation. Constantly on the lookout for ways to minimize the impact on the fragile ecosystem, some of Hurawalhis green
endeavours include an extensive solar panel installation, heat recovery system,
purchasing glass-bottled water at a nearby plant, ocean-friendly toiletries and
offering sustainable, locally sourced produce wherever possible.
