AVANI Fares Maldives Resort appoints Marlon Abeyakoon as General Manager

Avani Hotels and Resorts (Minor Hotel Group) has announced the appointment of Mr. Marlon Abeyakoon to the post of General Manager at Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort.

Having spent almost two decades in hospitality, Marlon has worked with multiple international hotel brands across the UAE, the UK, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Fiji. He started his career with One&Only in Dubai in 1999 before moving to the UK with glh Hotels and Hilton in 2013 at DoubleTree London as Hotel Manager. 

Marlon moved to Sri Lanka in 2016 where he worked as the Director of Operations of Hilton Colombo Residence until 2018. He then moved to Reethi Beach Resort in the Maldives where he was the General Manager.

In 2016, he moved to Sri Lanka, joining Hilton Colombo Residence as its Director of Operations. The appointment lasted until 2018 when he moved to the Maldives to take up the General Managers post at Reethi Beach Resort.

Located in Fares Island which is situated in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - Baa Atoll, Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort is scheduled to open their shores in 2021. This will be Avanis first property in the Maldives, and will be taking its place under the group's brand extension; "AVANI+". 

Minor Hotels brand extension, AVANI+, aims to take things slightly higher by using "a little bit extra" to enhance the existing brand, and will go one step further in how guests are catered to.

The 200-key Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort will be comprised of 200 guest rooms, including standard rooms and a selection of villas. Every attention will be given to intricate details, with décor blending genuine pleasures with modernity. Resort facilities and highlights include; all-day restaurant, speciality restaurant, The Pantry designer deli, AvaniSpa, AvaniKids and a massive swimming pool and pool bar.

The nearby dive site known as Ahivahfushi Beyru is a psychedelic garden waiting for snorkellers and scuba enthusiasts with a bounty of sea life from Hawksbill turtles to reef sharks and manta rays. The untouched, private 12.4 hectare island promises a blissful setting to truly get away from it all.
