Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid travels to Finland on an official visit

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid will be travelling to Finland on an official visit from 27 to 29 November 2019.

During the visit, Minister Shahid will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and explore avenues for cooperation to fortify the existing bilateral relations between both countries. The Minister will also meet with Minister of Education Li Andersson and with the business community of Finland to explore possibilities to reinforce trade ties and education cooperation between the two countries.

Since Finland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Foreign Minister Shahid will also discuss with the Finland government on obtaining duty exemption for Maldives tuna at the EU market, and on obtaining visa free access for Maldivians, to the countries of the European Union.

Minister Shahid will also sign an Air Services Agreement during the visit. The Agreement will allow international commercial air transport services between Maldives and Finland, enhancing the people to people contact as well as the broader economic cooperation between both countries.
