The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that airfare price of domestic travels will be lowered as part of the 100-day goals to be achieved in the first 100 days of the current administration of President Ibrahim Solihs Government.

Speaking at a press conference, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula stated that the government aims to provide better air transportation services with the reduction of airfare and that discussions on price reduction are underway with Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to achieve that goal.

The minister assured of reduced airfares and enhanced services in the coming days and that the prices will be announced within the next two days. However, she further noted that even though reduced prices are announced, it will take time to implement the decision.

There are two domestic carriers that operate in the Maldives currently which are the national carrier, Maldivian and privately-owned, Vila Air Flyme. Another domestic airline, Manta Air, is gearing up to operate domestic air services in the Maldives.
