With the introduction of the new regulations making helmets mandatory for drivers and passengers on motorbikes on the Sinamale Bridge and Hulhumale Highway, more people have resorted to using MTCCs Ferry Services between Male Cty and Hulhumale once again.

Mohamed Nazim, head of Transport of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), said that the number of ferry passengers had increased by 10-20 percent in only the first week after the rule was put in motion on the 10th of March.

Nazim has urged people who need to commute between Male and Hulhumale to use public transportation, so as to avoid problems such as congestion, lack of parking space and all types of pollution.

Nazim also quotes, "We need to increase use of Ferry and Bus services. Its better than everyone driving a motorcycle and also a solution to congestion."

He further says that MTCC is engaged in discussion with the Maldivian administration to improve the public transportation in the Greater Male Area.
