Safari and Yacht fees have been reduced following a decision
made to increase the number of yachts and safaris harboring at HA. Uligamu.
Forty-five members from 15 associations including, Ministry
of Health, Ministry of Tourism and Customs Authority participated in the conference.
Discussions were held to find out the reason for the constant reduction of
yachts docked at HA. Uligamu.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Abdulla Shareef came
to a conclusion indicating that one of the reasons for the continued fall in
the number of yachts and safaris is due to higher fees allocated for these
vessels, which was agreed upon by the other present representatives.
Therefore, with the consent of all delegates present, a
decision was made to lower the fees. He also further revealed plans to completely
omit this fee.
Shareef informed that a report will be compiled of the
conference to be shared with the economic committee of parliament. He further
commented that the quality of services is to be considered over the amount of
fee taken for the services. Following that, Food and Drug Authority, Ministry
of Tourism, and Ministry of Transport decided to reduce their fee prices.
Health Ministry charges approximately MVR 1000 to MVR 5000
to ensure vessels are following health regulations properly while, Customs
charges MVR 1000 for inward and outward clearance stamp in addition to other
charges paid by the vessels annually.
