Maldivian to conduct special cargo flights to domestic airports

National airline, Maldivian has announced that in light of COVID-19 situation in Maldives, cargo operations will be conducted to domestic airports.

 

With no specific date revealed, during a press conference held at the National Emergency Operation Centre, Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez said that Maldivian flights will be carrying out cargo operations across the atolls to minimize the problems faced while transporting goods to locals.

 

The goods transported through these flights are arranged by the Councils information forwarded to the LGA. The domestic cargo flights will operate daily and the Local Councils will be coordinating with LGA to continue with the operations, says Mabrouq.

 

During these flights, locals who are to be released from quarantine facilities will get the chance to return back to their islands.

 

Maldivian is currently operating cargo flights to various cities abroad bringing in essential supplies including medicine and food. The airline has previously transported cargo from Bangkok, Thailand and Dubai while prior to that, the airline had delivered 10 tonnes of cargo from Sri Lanka.

 

In view of the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Maldives, Capital Male has been put under lockdown for 14 days till April 30, 2020. So far, the total number of COVID-19 positives cases in Maldives reaches 128.
