The Fuvahmulah City Council has opened up a chance to let the Maldivian citizens name the dive point located on the north side of the citys harbour.

According to a statement released by the Fuvahmulah City Council, the dive point has gained a lot of popularity across the world due to the rich and abundant marine life that thrives in the area.

The council further stated that they are working to establish the area as one of the protected dive points in the country and Maldivian citizens can submit name suggestions for the dive point to the council until the 10th December 2018.

Fuvahmulah is a single island atoll that lies just south of the Equator in the middle of the ocean boasting of a geography that makes it one of a kind in the Maldives. Unlike the two thousand islands of the Maldives archipelago, which are coral reefs, Fuhvamulah is of volcanic origin, which makes it more similar to the Indonesian Islands of Bali or Gili.

The island's treasure is the unique white Thundi pebble beach, which is on the list of ten unique beaches of the world. For millions of years, under the influence of ocean currents, unique reef formations and several types of pebbles were formed.

With no other land masses nearby, the rare patterns of ocean currents around Fuvahmulah make it an ideal place to regularly spot sea tigers in the Maldives.

However, the allure of the island goes beyond its local tiger shark population. The islands reef, much of which remains unexplored, boasts every species of shark found in the Maldives, along with a variety of endemic species and pelagic fish like manta rays and, notably, thresher sharks.
