Angsana Velavaru has announced that the resort will be hosting European culinary star, Chef Rolf Fliegauf to AZZURO in ocean restaurant. The twice 2-Michelin starred German will be bringing his unmatched cooking finesse to Velavaru during a course of three gala dinners and two cooking classes from 23rd to 25th November 2018.

Herr Fliegaufs first inkling that he was destined for the culinary arts came at an early age, having spent much of his childhood peering into pots and absorbing the craft in the kitchen of his parents restaurant. Accompanied by a penchant for experimentation with texture and temperature, Chef Rolf embraces the fundamentals of haute cuisine while remaining close to the principles of popular cuisine an approach he calls "purist aroma cuisine".

"Aroma cuisine means that every ingredient retains its original favour. By combining the different components, I am able to optimally accentuate all of the flavours." Chef Rolf explains.

Despite having come of age and flourished on Euro-centric cooking, the German-born chef has expanded his culinary horizons to include an appreciation for regional fare

"Not so much the ingredients, but its the techniques... the tradition of serving a progression of smaller dishes. I love the Asian way of eating." He further comments.

Switzerlands most decorated chef and Europes youngest Michelin star recipient, he is best known as the founder of the prestigious Ecco Ascona and St. Moritz restaurants in Switzerland, where his work twice earned him a 2-star rating. His impact on the world of fine cooking has not gone unnoticed, with a critic from German national weekly Welt am Sonntag calling him "one of the greatest chefs of his generation".

Angsana Velavaru boasts classy accommodation with a strong Asian feel. It's most notable for its InOcean water villas, stand-alone structures a kilometre out from the main island which is connected by boats across the lagoon and totally private. The resort is an upper-midrange place that attracts an international crowd looking for affordable relaxation and is particularly good for food and beaches.

Angsana Velavaru sits half on the crystal clear waters of the Maldivian ocean and half on the white sandy beaches of the South Nilandhe Atoll. Guest can watch the sun rise over the vastness of the ocean on a sandy beach, then head over on a speedboat to the picturesque water villas and dine beneath the stars.

Angsana's chefs serve a wide variety of local and international cuisines. Guests can relax with Angsanas award-winning spa treatments, request for dolphin-watching trips or fishing in a traditional Maldivian Dhoni. Activities can be arranged at Angsana Velavaru's 5 Star PADI Dive Centre on request.

Angsana Velavaru is a 40-minute seaplane ride away from Velana International Airport.
