South Ari Marine Park has been launched by the Environment Minister

South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) will be managed by Environment Protection Agency with a set regulation to use the area by resorts, guesthouses and Liveaboards. 

The zone has been popular for sighting of Whalesharks and Mantas while growing number of tourist visitors has been increasing day to day without a proper management plan in place. 

Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has been communicating with industry stake holders including Dive Guides, Resorts and Liveaboards before the management place has been inaugurated today.

Hon. Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed officially inaugurated the South Ari Marine Park in a function held on 11th July 2019.

Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve has been the first location to be protected in the Maldives and it benefited the users. Meanwhile a plan for Addu Manta Point is in process at the moment.
