President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih Appoints Hon Ali Waheed as the Minister of Tourism of the New Government

The government of the Maldives has appointed former parliamentarian, Ali Waheed as Minister of Tourism.

Waheed who has been actively involved in politics for over a decade holds a bachelors degree in mass communication from Australias Curtin University and is known for his exceptional oratory skills.

Waheed appointment came as the government pledges to ramp up tourism promotion with new initiatives and more funding.

Speaking to media for the first time since appointed as the tourism minister, Waheed has stated that the Ministry of Tourism has been provided with a threefold increased promotional and marketing budget.

He further explained that the budget was increased to promote the Maldives in new destinations, adding the government aims to participate in more promotional fairs in the coming days.

The minister noted that the efforts of the tourism ministry will be conducted openly and the government is also aiming to increase job opportunities in the tourism sector.
