Velana International Airport Marks its 52nd Anniversary

Various activities were hosted today at Velana International Airport to mark the 52nd Anniversary of the airport


The activities were officiated this morning with a special ceremony which saw the raising of the flag. The flag raising was conducted by Managing director of MACL Adhil Moosa and Deputy Operating Officer Moosa Saalhi.


Following the flag raising ceremony a cake was cut in celebration of the event. The event was joined by Managing director Mr.Adil and Department heads.


A special staff ID card was introduced by the HR departments of MACL whom handed the new ID card of Managing director of MACL Adhil Moosa to him at the ceremony. According to MACL these new cards will be used to check the attendance of staff starting next month.


Furthermore new versions of staff kiosk machines were unveiled today in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary celebrations. MACL stated that staff will be able to obtain various useful information from the new kiosk machines using the new ID cards provided by the company. A total of 16 kiosk machines were installed in different areas of the airport.


Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is a 100% government owned Limited Liability Company governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Privatisation & Corporatization Board of Maldives. MACL is the operator of Velana International Airport (VIA) the gateway to the Maldives.


MACL has embarked on the largest developmental projects in the Maldives, including a billion-dollar investment to transform Velana International Airport into a world-class airport.


Major projects include the development of a new runway which can accommodate A380 aircrafts, a new Cargo Terminal which can handle 120,000 tons, a new Fuel Farm which is 3 times the size of the present facility, a new Sea plane Terminal with MRO facilities, along with many other infrastructural developments.
