Maldivian to Commence Mumbai – Maafaru Operations in April 2021

National Airline, Maldivian is preparing to commence direct flight operations between Mumbai Airport (BOM) and N. Maafaru Airport in the month of April 2021.  

During a press conference held today, Managing Director of Maldivian Mohamed Mihad stated that the new direct service will give rise to a “lucrative market for the resorts and guesthouses around the region.” 

Maldivian will operate three weekly flights from Maafaru Airport to Mumbai starting April 13, 2021.  

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Managing Director of Maldivian Aishath Jennifer informed that a General Sales Agent has been appointed to handle operations of this new route. She further said that Maldivian stands to fulfill the needs of our communities and assist in its economy growth.  

The national airline played a significant role during the pandemic despite the sudden halt in global air travel. Maldivian carried out various evacuation operations to transfer undocumented Bangladeshi individuals back to their countries as well as cargo operations to transport essential goods to the Maldivian communities.  

Maafaru Airport located in Noonu Atoll, the region hosts of some of the finest properties in Maldives such as, Vela Private Island, Cheval Blanc Randheli, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, Sun Siyam World, Robinson Club,  Noku Maldives, Movenpick Kuredhivaru and many boutique hotels / Guesthouses in various islands in the atoll.
