Kitesurfers begin journey across Maldives to campaign against littering in the oceans. Three local kitesurfers Simbe, Hambe and Delio are joined by the two-time World Kitesurfing Champion Youri Zoon to travel across Maldives only by kitesurfing. Aptly named "Dhekunun Uthurah" which translates as "South to North", the event is expected to set a few records by completion.

The event was officially launched by the Mayor of Addu City Abdulla Sodiq and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment Mohamed Azmeel.  The opening event was accompanied by a cleaning event on the island.

The kitesurfers will travel from Gan of Addu Atoll to the nearest one-island atoll of Fuvahmulah in the first day, and continue their journey with stops at various islands. The kitesurfers will clean ocean litter during their journey while also taking part in beach & lagoon cleaning events at different islands.  Environmental activist group Parley and Zero Waste Maldives are also supporting the cause. The event is sponsored by Slingshot Sports.
