European Journalists Arrive in Maldives to Promote Tourism

Five journalists from German-speaking countries have arrived in the Maldives today, marking the 20th familiarization trip conducted by Maldives Marketing & Publinc Relations Corporation in the year 2019. This familiarization trip is also the third trip conducted for the German speaking countries this year.

The journalists from Austria, Switzerland and Germany, represent the traditional media channels popular in their respective countries. The traditional newspapers with a combined circulation of 5 million include, Ruhr Nachrichten, Main Post and Fuldaer Zeitung from Germany, Riese Tipp from Austria and lastly, Migros-Magazin from Switzerland.

The theme of this trip is to "Discover a Brand-New Luxury Experience". They will be staying at luxury properties that opened recently such as, You & Me by Cocoon Maldives, Residence Maldives Dhigurah & Pullman Maamutaa. With many activities arranged that are unique to these resorts, they will be indulging in the different culinary experiences, exciting excursions such as dolphin cruises and the unique spa treatments in these resorts.

This familiarization trip is part of the many marketing activities initiated by MMPRC this year to promote Maldives as a destination in German speaking countries. Activities conducted in this region include participation in fairs such as BOOT Dusseldorf, ITB Berlin and FESPO in Zurich. Roadshows were also conducted in prominent cities such as Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna along with other marketing campaigns.

Germany currently ranks 3rd in terms of arrivals to Maldives. A total of 151,414 arrivals have been recorded from Germany, Austria and Switzerland till October 2019. This is an increase from the same period of 2018 which recorded a total of 135,655 arrivals from these three countries.
