Raffles Maldives Meradhoo has announced the appointment of Amila Jeewantha Handunwala as its new General Manager. With over 25 years of experience in the luxury hospitality sector, his expertise will play a significant role in elevating the renowned twin-island hideaway to new heights. 

Possessing an extensive background with esteemed hospitality marques, Amila has previously led hotel operations, sales, marketing, revenue management and distribution strategies in the Middle East, South Asia and Europe. Most recently, he held the position of Executive Assistant Manager for St. Regis Maldives Vommuli, with previous appointments across several luxury hotels and resorts within the Conrad and Waldorf Astoria collections.

Raffles Maldives Meradhoo provides guests with unparalleled luxury from the moment they step onto the main island to the sound of welcome drums and an ice-cold glass of fine champagne. The main island is home to 22 villas, including Raffles Residences, Beach Villas and Deluxe Beach Villas. It is also the home of the nurturing, overwater Raffles Spa, the main pool and a soft white sand beach on which are found restaurants Thari and The Firepit, and the island interpretation of the legendary Long Bar.  

Overwater Island consists of 16 villas, some facing east to greet the rising sun and others facing west to capture the magnificence of the Maldivian sunset. The Nikkei-inspired restaurant Yuzu, and adjacent bar Yapa are also found here – giving guests breathtaking views to enjoy with delectable food and drink as the amber sun dips below the endless Maldivian horizon.
