Maldives Participates at the World Travel Market, London

Maldives is currently exhibiting at the World Travel Market (WTM) held in London, the United Kingdom from 5th - 7th November 2018. 

This year, 169 delegates from 65 companies from across the Maldives tourism sector including Resorts, Hotels, Guest Houses, Travel Agencies, Associations and Airline Operators are representing the Maldives at the fair. The Maldives contingent is led by H.E. Ahmed Shiaan, Ambassador of Maldives to UK, Belgium & EU.

The main activities at Maldives stand include business meetings for industry professionals to conduct business deals. This is a significant platform to create personal and business opportunities, providing customers with quality contacts and content. Moreover, to gain coverage, press distribution will be conducted providing information about the big events and success stories of Maldives. 



Visitors can experience the Maldives in virtual reality while the lucky winner gets to holiday and witness the wonders of the country. Holiday package for the winner is sponsored by one of the co Exhibitors of the Maldives, MO Hotels & Resorts. To maximise the opportunity, WTM offers to socialise and experience the unique vibe of destinations, local traditional attire will be showcased to the visitors along with Maldivian culinary delights.

The Maldives is being showcased at a 345 Square meter double storey stand designed in an attractive contemporary style showing beautiful images of the country. This years stand has been enhanced to accommodate the increasing number of industry partners participating at the fair year on year implying the significance of the fair to the partners which is a positive indication. Co-exhibitors are given the opportunity to advertise the authentic character of each destination at the allocated tables.



In order to magnify the presence of destination Maldives at WTM, Prince Regent DlR walkway screens are used by MMPRC to portray the beauty of Maldives in the form of images and videos. This is believed to be very effective as the DLR walkway screens are displayed at a very prominent location (at the main entrance of WTM).To enhance promoting the Maldives even further, lanyards with Maldives branding will be distributed at the fair.



WTM, now in its 38th year which is one of the leading global events for the travel industry. Maldives participated in WTM held in London in the year 1984 for the first time and continued to do so every year making this the 34th time. The event brings together almost 5000 exhibiting destinations, technology and private sector companies to find and network with 51,000 travel professionals, key industry buyers, journalists & digital influencers. WTM offers the opportunity to discover the world under one roof and discover trends, issues and innovations in the travel industry.

Furthermore, ideas are generated at WTM London, with about 100 sessions taking place and input from 350 senior industry experts.

The UK is one of the major source markets to the Maldives. Arrival figures from January to September rank UK in the second position for highest performing markets to the Maldives accounting for 7.7% of total market share. 83,311 tourist arrivals were recorded from the UK till this year September, an increase of 10.3% compared to 2017.
