Number of beds in the Maldives to rise exponentially

The Ministry of Tourism has announced that they have issues licenses to 10 new resorts and 40 new guesthouses within the very first three months of the new administration.

During a recent press conference held by the Ministry of Tourism, Minister Ali Waheed mentioned that, with the newly licensed resorts, the number of resorts has now increased 141 resorts.

"Ever since the new government took over the administration, we have added 1410 additional beds to resorts, and added 640 new beds through 40 new guesthouses. There are now a total of 8960 beds in the Maldives through guesthouses alone. Along with this, we have licenses 11 dive centers and 22 travel agencies," quoted the minister.

In a previous statement made by the Ministry, they mentioned that there would be over to dozen new resorts opening this year, and this would mean that the number of beds in the Maldives are estimated to reach 50,000 by the end of the year.
