Maldives Surpasses Half a Million Tourist Arrivals for 2021

According to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives has welcomed total 500,406 tourist arrivals for the year 2021 as of June 25.  

 

From January 2021, arrivals to Maldives gradually increased and during the month of March, Maldives welcomed over 100,000 tourists in a single month for the first time since border reopening.  

Russia and India recorded the highest percentage of market share for the month of June and remain the top 1 and 2 markets to Maldives, respectively. From June 1 - 25, Maldives has recorded over 46,000 tourist arrivals.  

Having maintained a daily average of 2,483 visitors throughout the year, Maldives aims to reach 1.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2021. 

On 1 February 2021, Maldives initiated the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. Ministry of Tourism also launched an initiative to vaccinate people in the tourism sector to develop an even safer scenario for the industry. As of 20 June 2021, 315,282 people in the Maldives have received the first dose of the vaccine with 183,373 receiving the second dose. Over 90% of the workers in the tourism industry of the Maldives have also been administered the first dose of the vaccine. 

To further promote and a share positive message tourism industry employee vaccination, Visit Maldives together with the Ministry of Tourism launched the "I'm Vaccinated" campaign on 28 April.
