Hurawalhi's strict fishing and seafood policies protect the local environment as well as providing guests the chance to enjoy some incredible experiences.

The incredible waters around Hurawalhi Resort in the Maldives are teeming with marine life, the rich and varied environment is one of the most beautiful and fragile in the world. This unique marine world has long been a big draw for visitors to the country as well as being one of the most important resources for the region.

The fresh fish and seafood on offer at Hurawalhis dining venues, from the spacious buffet restaurant of Canneli to the stunning 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, is all sustainably sourced and, where possible, locally caught. Often supplemented by the fresh produce grown in Hurawalhis own gardens this enables guests to enjoy the fantastic meals on offer guilt-free and with the confidence that everything has been sourced with the environment at the forefront of our chefs planning.

Hurawalhis guests can also choose to join fishing experiences, both those using traditional hand line techniques and big-game fishing excursions. In order to protect and ensure that these activities are sustainable, Hurawalhi has introduced a strict fishing policy. This policy ensures that only certain species are targeted, limits the numbers kept and Hurawalhi actively engage in tagging and monitoring of key species. All fish that are kept are sent to the kitchens and prepared for our guests to enjoy.

Working with Hurawalhis marine biologists, the log from each trip is monitored and feeds into wider research on the regions fish stocks and the overall health of the Maldives waters.
