Imagine One World Kimono Project officially unveils Maldives Kimono at the Five Continent Kimono Collection Show

The Imagine One World Kimono Project has unveiled the Maldives Kimono at the Five Continent Kimono Collection Show held at Japan.

The Maldivian Kimono showcases the Maldives national flower; pink rose, the colors of the Maldivian flag, underwater world and the lacquer work, locally known as one of the most distinctive forms of handicraft.


The Kimono was sponsored by Ms. Akemi Sakai and designed and made by Mr. Sekiya Yukihide.

The Project aims to create 206 kimonos representing each of the countries expected to take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games to spread the wonders of Japans master craftsmanship across the country and around the globe. At the same time, the sight of 206 kimonos on stage representing the harmony and unity of all the countries of the world.

The Project intends to make one Kimono and its appropriate fitting, the Obi (sash) often hand woven in elaborate detail, for every country in the world, based on its image for the country.
