New York-based, Time Magazine has featured some of the most beautiful and luxurious resorts of Maldives in its recently released list of World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2021.

Velaa Private Island and Fari Islands: Patina Maldives and The Ritz-Carlton Maldives were amongst the World’s 100 Greatest Places to explore for the year 2021.

The headline will be highlighted in the Time Magazine’s cover story to be published in the coming month of August 2021. According to Time staff, the “third annual list of the World’s Greatest Places is a tribute to the people and businesses at the forefront of those industries who, amid extraordinary circumstances, found ways to adapt, build and innovate. It shines a light on ingenuity, creativity, revitalization and reopenings in destinations across the world.”

The destination list including countries, cities regions and towns was selected from Time’s international network of correspondents and contributors, who showcased new and exciting experiences during the year.

Velaa Private Island

Nestled within the constellation of islands that form the Noonu Atoll in Maldives, Velaa Private Island takes exclusivity to the next level with facilities and service that go beyond traditional resorts. Designed by award-winning Czech architect Petr Kolar as “an elegant fusion of Maldivian culture with contemporary luxury, intimate with Maldivian nuances.” Velaa Private Island is the realisation of a dream to create a ‘beyond luxury’ exclusive boutique hideaway in the Maldives. Velaa means “Turtle Island” in the local language – named after generations of sea turtles that flock there to nest and hatch.

From a broader “bird’s eye view” which greets arrivals by seaplane, the island’s exclusive over-water villas are also constructed to resemble the head of a turtle, with the island forming the body. The resort comprises 47 private villas, houses and exclusive residences. While 18 of the 47 are built over water, the Romantic Pool Residence can only be reached by boat, allowing even more privacy and exclusivity.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is part of Fari Islands, an archipelago that features three world-class hospitality brands inclusive of The Ritz-Carlton. The guests are expected to have access to a picturesque Fari Marina – the archipelago’s communal beating heart. Built around a vibrant Beach Club, Fari Marina features charming boutiques and a handpicked selection of dining options. Spaces have been designed by the renowned Kerry Hill Architects, to bring about a delicate balance of serene and social.

Located in North Male Atoll, the island features white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and coral reefs with marine life. Shaped by the Maldivian sun and shored by the Indian Ocean, guest villas at The Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Island are expected to range in size from one to three bedrooms, featuring the refined elegance and legendary service that define The Ritz-Carlton brand.

The property also offers a choice of outstanding culinary venues serving an array of international and local cuisines, in addition to a full suite of fitness and recreational facilities including a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa.

Patina Maldives, Fari Islands

Set in the Fari Islands archipelago in North Malé Atoll, guests at Patina Maldives can immerse themselves in a new expression of island life through thoughtful tailormade wellness journeys, interactive music programmes, captivating culinary experiences, and bask in the light-filled James Turrell Skyspace pavilion — all while embracing the vibrant social scene that emanates from the destination’s communal heart: the Fari Marina Village and Fari Beach Club.

The property also advances the well-established trend of purposeful travel with a hands-on, data-led approach to positively impacting people and place, reflecting a brand-wide commitment to the pursuit of perpetuality. From addressing waste in its supply chain and boosting the health of its guests, neighbors and local environment to ensuring energy-positive operations - including becoming the first resort in the Maldives with 100 percent solar-powered kids’ club, recreation and dive centres - Patina Maldives is dedicated to making a lasting difference in everything it does.
