A guesthouse in Alif Alif Rasdhoo, Rasdhoo View Inn, is the first in the island to ban single use plastics with the introduction of a custom-made glass bottle to serve their guests.  The General Manager of Rasdhoo View Inn, Hussain Simaau took the initiative.

He said, "We agreed to stop using single-use plastics from today and we are happy to be the first guesthouse in Rasdhoo to ban single use plastics."

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also started a campaign to reduce and minimize single-use plastics. He states that with more than 280,000 plastic water bottles used in the capital city alone, on a daily basis, the commonness of plastic such as bags, bottles and wrappers in the Maldives is at a worrying level.

Taking after the example which was set by President Mohamed Solih, Foreign Ministry also chose an alternative to single-use plastic, with Minister Shahid launching a campaign to reduce and minimize single-sue plastic in the Maldives Foreign Affairs, in the efforts to protect and preserve the natural state of the environment.
