President Mohamed Solih has said that a picnic island in close range of the capital city will be allocated for the recreational use of the locals in the foreseeable future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign hub, President Solih stated that the plans to transition Male into a more socially friendly environment will be commencing soon.

He added that many types of facilities will be available from the picnic island, but the government hasnt revealed the location of the island yet.

Islands used for recreational purposes in the past were leased for tourism during reign of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and received harsh criticism from the public, particularly when islands such as Kuda Bandos and Feydhoo Finolhu were allocated for resort development.

Therefore, President Ibrahim Solih has vowed to designate  islands for the exclusive use of locals for recreational purposes, within the first 100 days of his term in office.
