The
famous MV Victory shipwreck off the southwest coast of airport island Hulhule had
sustained major damages from anchors of marine vessels deployed for the
construction of the Sinamale bridge between Hulhule and capital Male in 2016.
Therefore,
in order to preserve what was left undamaged of the site, four buoys were placed
in order to mark the area of the site. However, the fact remained, that during
such a large project debris and trash from construction would end up damaging
the site.
One of
the people who played a major role in preserving the site and also the managing
director of DiveDesk, Mr. Adam Ashraf said that the Victory Shipwreck reopened
on the 21st of February.
In his
opinion, due to the debris from the construction of the bridge, some parts of
the site had changed. Furthermore, due to the anchors from the boats which held
up the equipment being let down near the site and the mud from the construction
itself, the site was definitely damaged.
However,
it was also mentioned that, despite this, the marine life of the site had
increased,
It was
said that the best way to identify the extent of the damage would be to conduct
a survey, and thus, it should be done very soon.
