Maldives has taken part in the largest and longest running
B2B tourism fair in Russia, Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT).
It is one of the worlds top five travel and tourism exhibitions and is highly
valued by the international tourism industry. Held in Moscow, Russia, the event
took place from the 12th to 14th March 2019.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC),
along with 34 representatives from 19 tourism sector businesses in the Maldives
took part in this years exhibition. The corporation has said that participants
held one-on-one meetings with partners in the industry, at the exhibition, in
order to promote and market Maldives as a tourism destination. The participants
also were said to have taken part in conferences aimed to strengthen and
promote the growth of the tourism industry.
MMPRC reports that the team from Maldives showcased the
underwater beauty and marine life of the Maldives to the visitors at the
exhibition and allowed them to experience what its like, swimming with the
sharks. The team also held daily lucky draws to give away gifts to visitors. All
in efforts to make Maldives more appealing and attractive.
The number of Russian tourists in the Maldives have been
increasing over the years with the introduction of direct flights between Male
and Moscow. With a 14.5% increase from 2017 to 2018, 70,935 tourists visited the
Maldives in 2018.
