The leading airport operator of the Maldives, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that 99.9% of its staff received the first doses of vaccine and 89.3% are fully vaccinated.

On March 29, 2021, MACL’s Airport Emergency Services initiated a vaccination program in alliance with Maldives Health Protection Agency (HPA). This program aimed to vaccinate all VIA staff including MACL, Airline staff, Government bodies and resort partners, onsite contractors among others. Apart from MACL staff, 927 VIA passholders received the first dose and 1716 received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine under the VIA vaccination program.

“I am delighted that nearly all our staff are vaccinated. This is the most important thing we have done to ensure the safety our staff and passengers. I am proud to say that we are one of the very first airports to achieve this”, stated CEO and MD Mr. Gordon Andrew Stewart.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Velana International Airport (VIA) has kept its high standards assuring passenger and staff safety. As a result, in September 2020 VIA was awarded the ACI Health Accreditation certificate as the 2nd airport from the Asia Pacific and on February 2021 VIA has received the ACI voice of the customer recognition award.
