Island Aviation Services (IAS) to introduce night flights to Thimarafushi Airport

On Monday, the 14th of January 2019, Island Aviation Services (IAS) who operates the National airline of Maldives and the Thimarafushi Airport  announced that they were introducing night flights to Thimarafushi Domestic Airport.

IAS will be holding an inauguration ceremony in the airport located in Thaa Atoll for the additional services.

Despite the completion of the lights on the runway, IAS has yet to land a flight at the airport at night.

The former President Mohamed Waheed Hassan had inaugurated Thimarafushi Domestic Airport on 3rd September, 2013.

The construction of the airports runway, measuring 1,200-metres in length and 30-metres across, was initially awarded to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). They had subcontracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting (MTCC) for MVR 32 million in the month of May, 2012.
