Don’t miss one of the most exciting times of the year at Hurawalhi Maldives – manta season! Stretching from November to April, manta season at Hurawalhi sees aggregations of these majestic creatures at its sandbank, one of the main feeding hotspots in the atoll, with almost daily sightings.

Swimming with mantas is often cited as THE most incredible experience by guests visiting Hurawalhi at this time. Guests can join the resident marine biologists on manta search expeditions throughout manta season. These excursions are a valuable opportunity not only for guests to observe these iconic creatures and learn a bit more about them but also for research and collection of important data for Manta Trust, who work hard to help protect these iconic fish.

Guests can also take excursions to other sites in Lhaviyani Atoll to see manta rays. Fushifaru is a well-known cleaning station and popular with Hurawalhi’s scuba divers; this beautiful reef, teeming with life, is where the mantas are usually seen at the very start of the season before moving onto their feeding grounds. The mantas glide in to hover above the large coral blocks and cleaner wrasse clean their gills and body of parasites – a fascinating sight. Snorkelers have opportunities to join trips not only to our sandbank, but other feeding grounds in the atoll too.
