In the latest public display of the strong community spirit prevalent in Baa atoll, Goidhoo islanders joined hands in helping protect and preserve the health of Fulhadhoo islands invaluable resource of resilient corals from the effects of harbour construction work.

Fulhadhoo is home to one of Maldives most spectacular and resilient house reefs, and one of the few to have survived the recent bleaching events that affected most Maldivian reefs.

Residents of all ages participated during the 3-day installation of the 100-meter silt screen - large enough to screen the corals from major construction activities. The community project was initiated by the NGOs Maldives Coral Institute (MCI) and Save the Beach and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The project taught valuable information to the atoll community and children about protecting their island and surrounding the corals. The project was also supported by neighboring Fehendhoo whose bodu beru traditional drum group provided the musical entertainment backdrop to the community work.
