Thulusdhoo Welcomes First Guest House Visitors

Thulusdhoo has welcomed the very first guest house visitors to the island since Maldives’ borders reopened on July 15, 2020.  

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and Canopus Retreat Thulusdhoo owners participated in the reopening ceremony held today in Thulusdhoo and warmly welcomed the visitors to the island destination. 

In order to resume services with best practices, over 20 guesthouses of Thulusdhoo worked jointly with the island council, the health center and other relevant institutions for the reopening.  

Considered a hot spot amongst surfers, Thulusdhoo Island is located in Kaafu Atoll just 30 minutes away from Maldives main Velana International Airport, Male’. According to confirmed sources, the very first guests to visit the island were surfers from Israel. 

Licensed guest houses begin accommodating guests starting October 12, four months since the suspension of on-arrival tourist visas to the country. The local tourist establishments will be in operation whilst following the safe tourism guideline issued by the Ministry of Tourism as well as local and international health and safety guidelines presented by health authorities and organizations.
