Visit Maldives Club, in partnership with Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), officially announced the return of the Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament, set to take place from 13–15 June 2026. Following the success of its inaugural edition, the 2026 tournament aims to welcome a larger number of international and local teams, further cementing the Maldives’ position as a leading destination for sustainable marine sports tourism.

Recognized as the Maldives’ biggest sport fi shing event, Burunu Boma has quickly gained international attention within the global angling community. The 2025 edition featured nine teams, one international and eight local, highlighting the Maldives’ growing reputation for world-class fi shing experiences and its strong commitment to sustainability through the ‘Catch and Release’ practice.

“The inaugural Burunu Boma was more than a competition; it demonstrated the Maldives’ capacity to diversify its tourism portfolio through global sporting events,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, Managing Director and CEO of Visit Maldives Corporation. “For the 2026 tournament, our goal is to expand participation, strengthen partnerships, and elevate the event into a permanent fi xture in the global sport fi shing calendar.”

The Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament 2026 will be held from 13–15 June, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 17 June 2026. Registration details and venue announcements will be shared soon through offi cial Visit Maldives platforms and the tournament microsite.

The 2025 Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament concluded with Team Dubai taking home the championship title, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the competition. The team also received a grand prize of USD 25,000, marking an exciting milestone for the tournament’s debut edition.

The tournament forms part of Visit Maldives’ ongoing eff orts to promote the Maldives as a diverse, experience-driven destination. By spotlighting marine sports and sustainable practices, the initiative supports the nation’s broader goal of enhancing its global appeal beyond traditional luxury travel.
