The Maldives recently took part in the 23rd COMCEC Tourism Working Group (TWG) focused on Developing and Branding Gastronomy Tourism. The Maldivian delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry and an expert from the Chef’s Guild of Maldives (CGM), centered its discussions on strategies to enhance culinary experiences for tourists visiting the nation.

The theme for this year’s meeting was “Developing and Branding Gastronomy Tourism Destinations within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).” This gathering provided a platform to explore the latest advancements and trends in gastronomy tourism across OIC member countries.

During the session, the final draft of the COMCEC Research Report on this theme was presented. This report included case studies from various countries, including the Maldives, Uganda, Egypt, and Türkiye, offering insights into each nation’s approach to gastronomic tourism.

Additionally, a policy debate session was conducted to formulate recommendations aimed at developing and branding gastronomy tourism within the OIC member countries. This collaborative effort reflects a commitment to fostering culinary tourism as a means of economic enhancement and cultural exchange.

Through participation in such meetings, the Maldives aims to elevate its culinary scene, enticing tourists with unique gastronomic experiences while simultaneously promoting its rich cultural heritage. As gastronomy tourism continues to gain prominence, the Maldives seeks to carve a niche that highlights its unique flavors and culinary traditions.
