Three More Franchise Restaurants to Open at Velana International Airport

Maldives Airport Company has announced that three more franchise restaurants have been brought to completion at the Waterfront Restaurant in Velana International Airport and will begin operations at the end of August.


The announcement was made by the managing director of Maldives Airport Company (MACL), Adil Moosa at the opening ceremony of the 'Gloria Jean's Coffees' outlet at the airport departure hall. 


According to Adil, three new franchise restaurants, namely the famous British brand Costa Coffee, KFC and Pizza Hut have been constructed, and are currently carrying out the final touches to the kitchens. The new dining facilities to be opened at Velana International Airport will be housed in a grand 14,000 square feet building.


"We are willing to do and are doing, everything we can to reinforce the development of the airport. Although the airport is yet to reach completion, we are committed to serving to the needs and services of all passengers," said Adil.


The agreement to assemble the franchise restaurants was signed with Italy's HMSHost International on 29 Jan 2018.


Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is a 100% government owned Limited Liability Company governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Privatisation & Corporatization Board of Maldives. MACL is the operator of Velana International Airport (VIA) the gateway to the Maldives.


MACL has embarked on the largest developmental projects in the Maldives, including a billion-dollar investment to transform VIA into a world-class airport.


Major projects includes the development of the new runway which can accommodate A380 aircrafts, a new International Passenger Terminal which can cater for 7.5 million pax, a new Cargo Terminal which can handle 120,000 tons, a new Fuel Farm which is 3 times the size of the present facility, a new Seaplane Terminal with MRO facilities, along with many other infrastructural developments.
