Canareef Resort Maldives, Addu City - In a landmark agreement aimed at fostering collaboration and driving development, the Addu City Council and Addu International Airport Pvt Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for mutual cooperation. The signing took place on October 25,  2024 at the Canareef Resort Maldives, Addu City, with key representatives from both parties in attendance.

This MoU sets forth a comprehensive plan for collaboration in various critical areas, including infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and airline connectivity.

Key Highlights of the MoU Include:

-  Collaborative Infrastructure Projects: The parties will work together to develop and maintain various infrastructures, ensuring alignment with the Airport Development Plan and the Addu City Master Plan.

-  Visitor-Friendly Facilities: The agreement includes joint efforts to develop visitor-friendly infrastructure, such as museums and tourist attractions, to enhance the overall visitor experience in Addu City.

-  Airline Incentive Program: Exploration of creating an airline incentive program to incentivize new airlines operating international routes at Gan International Airport, offering benefits such as landing fee credits and marketing support.

-  Marketing Initiatives: The council and the airport will collaborate on marketing strategies to attract both local and international visitors, increasing the visibility and appeal of Addu City. Joint Training Programs: Training opportunities will be developed to share knowledge and expertise, benefiting both parties and their staff.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents a crucial step for Addu City, underscoring a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and tourism. Mayor Ali Nizar emphasized the commitment to fostering a vibrant environment for residents and visitors through a partnership with Gan International Airport. Mohamed Waheed Hussain, Managing Director of Addu International Airport Pvt Ltd, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, envisioning Gan Airport as the central hub for southern connectivity.
